Maadhorubaagan, 'One Part Female', is a contemporary Tamil novel set in the small town of Tiruchengodu in central - western Tamil Nadu. The work revolves around the lives of a young, childless couple, kaali and Ponna, whose hopes, longings and prayers for a child converge on the hill in Tiruchengode, that houses Ardhanareeswara, the form that the Hindu God Shiva takes where he is One part Female.
