This is a modern academic history book focusing on the research of the world famous Doubting Antiquity School. It is not an academic history works in an ordinary sense, but a book emphasizing the statement and analysis of the relationship between Gu Jiegang and his disciples. The book makes the first discussion of Gu Jiegangs academic attainments, impact and character as well as his teaching method. It mainly tells about the relationship between Gu Jiegang and his top five outstanding disciples - He Dingsheng, Tan Qihsiang, Tong Shuye, Yang Xiangkui and Liu Qiyu, who used to follow closely Gu Jiegang. But later because of various reasons, they differed with Gu Jie-gang in academy and even parted ways. The reason why the teacher and his students went close and apart was that, in addition to their differences in personal nature of mind and temperament, the impact of the social environment played a very important role. Especially after 1949, various types of political movements caused distortions of peoples hearts, which is manifested most vividly in the chapter of Gu Jiegang and Tong Shuye.
