One Language, Two Scripts: The Hindi Movement in Nineteenth Century North India

This account of the Hindi movement examines the political, social and cultural aspects of the novement, particularly on the local and provincial levels. It is based on extensive use of both Hindi and English sources, including a thorough search of official records such as education reports, publication statistics and the like.
