In April 1975, Khmer Rouge came. The author Pin Yathay and his a big family, which totaled 18 people, like the more than two million people in the city, were forced out of Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, and reclaim wasteland under supervision. In the following two years, Cambodia virtually became a large prison farm. The Pin Yathay family was drove away here and there and finally wandered into the northwest mountains of Cambodia where natural conditions were very harsh and they were driven by Khmer Rouges atrocious cadres. The family never had enough to eat and was afflicted with poverty and ill health, and most of the family members died in early 1977. Pin Yathay decided to take his wife to tramp over mountains and flee to Thailand and he entrusted the six-year-old son Nava to others care. However, his wife got lost and died in the forest fire, and Pin Yathay had a narrow escape and finally survived. After the escape, he missed his separated son so much that he wept loudly. Stay Alive, My Son records a true story in Cambodia, and is the authors memoirs of his appalling, miserable life during 1975-1977 under the rule of Khmer Rouge. This book is the authors personal memoirs and also an unforgettable history of the 20th century.
