Such inflexibility may backfire and incur unfavorable results such as the dislike of goodness by the child. Teenagers, for instance, have certain rulings whose knowledge is to be inquired about by the parents by way of asking the people of knowledge in this regard. To mention a few: what is the proper dress code for children of this age? How should they be allowed outside the house? In what manner, can the children deal with intermingling? What should they look at and what shouldn’t they look at? The purpose is to endear goodness to the hearts of the children. Children under the age of puberty, however, enjoy a relative leeway in terms of rulings, since legal responsibilities start with puberty. Our current reality proves there are parents who cannot deal with their children, religiously speaking. Children who have reached puberty are only advised in accordance with the rulings of Allāh.
