Sunni and Shiah Perspectives on Islam

The two largest groups within Islam are the Sunni and the Shi'ah. The Sunni comprise the largest group in terms of both territory and adherents, while the Shi'ah are the largest minority and are contained mostly within what is now Iran, Bahrain, and part of Iraq. It is important to understand the similarities and differences between these two groups. In his book, Sunni and Shiah Perspectives of Islam , author Dr. Ahmad Abdullah Salamah illustrates both the similarities and differences addressing such topics as: Caliphate versus Imamate, the position of the Qur'an, the Taqiyyah(dissimulation) doctrine and the practice of Mut'ah (temporary marriage). This is an interesting book about a controversial practice among a sect within Islam.
