This is the home of the famous Japanese architect Tsutomu Abe. Thirty years ago, he planted seven beech trees in front of the house. The leaves danced in the small saplings, the sunlight shined from the roof of the courtyard and outside the window was green and quiet. Here is the soul of the home he designed. In Japanese, the soul of home refers to a place in the house which makes you comfortable and relaxed and where the soul of your family perches. Thirty years later, his wife died while his son grew up and moved out from the home. Mr. Abe, who lives alone, is not lonely because of the family changes. The seven beech trees have grown into big trees which guard the home like warriors. Home is not equal to three bedrooms and two sitting rooms, or Scandinavian and American furniture, or luxurious decoration. Home is equal to house, family and life.
