Dream back to Beijing is one of the supplements to our “Leisure Interests Workshop” series. The year before last when we just finished the series, Zheng Yong intended to sound a retreat. Later he talked to three of our authors and found more room for maneuver, for instance the fields of “lute-playing, chess, calligraphy and painting” and “traditional Chinese operas,” etc. which are underway now. Among the existing categories, except for the fields of tea and wine, food and book that are comparatively complete, others can be further enriched. Beijing (Volume I and II) compiled by Jiang Deming in the 1990s presents Beijing as a symbol of culture, which greatly influenced the initiation of “Study on Beijing” and “Study on Metropolis” movements in the academic circles. Beijing also boasts meaningful and refined writing, traditional vertical format and antique binding and layout, all making the readers talk with great relish.
