Until the Moss Grows (Refine) is the Japanese national treasure-class photographer Hiroshi Sugimotos only photographic essays. The book title Until the Moss Grows is from the Waka collection Manyoushu, known as the The Japanese Book of Songs. Until the Moss Grows is divided into 16 chapters. Each chapter is started from one of his photo work and a paragraph of question and answer, which draws the artists views acquired from the interaction with between the way of photographing and the themes of history, philosophy, time, memory, dream, etc. They are told in the poetic way with Buddhist mood, rich in oriental artistic conception.
