This book is based on a true story happened in Anwubao Village, Jingyang County, Shaanxi Province in late Qing Dynasty. It tells the touching stories of the heroine Zhou Ying who fights against all kinds of forces bravely from living in widowhood at the age of 18 to her death at the age of 42, and becomes one of the few female officials appointed by feudal dynasty and enjoying salary without going to work in government in the history of China, but eventually leaves sorrows behind. With real scenes, the novel represents local conditions and customs and folk culture of central Shaanxi plain in the late Qing Dynasty and it is a literary work with important sociological value and strong appeal.
