From Library Journal
Hechler combines investigative reporting techniques and style with a scholarly in-depth analysis. The scope is impressive. He examines the "system" (the courts, medical establishment, and various child protective services), statistical/research methodologies, the use and abuse of "experts," treatment programs, and backlash to the reporting and handling of child sexual abuse cases. A number of cases are reviewed and interviews included. The result is a critical and objective work, valuable for general readers as well as those involved in such cases. This book provides more depth than John Crewdson's By Silence Betrayed and complements Kathleen C. Faller's Child Sexual Abuse (both, LJ 12/87). Highly recommended.
