This plain language guide for UK (and other) students and practitioners in engineering describes how to organize each stage of a civil engineering project, from conception to handover. Material covers promotion, feasibility, and project strategy, along with design, civil engineering construction contracts, planning and control of construction, and construction management organization. Other areas examined include testing, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and asset management. The book’s two-color layout features numerous bullets, summary charts, and subheading. About 20 pages of appendices offer lists of further reading, useful addresses and web sites, and a glossary. The sixth edition was published in 2009; this seventh edition covers the UK’s CDM 2015 Regulations, NEC3, and building information modeling (BIM).
