In the book Butterfly Killings, the Kihara Opera gave a performance of Madame Butterfly in Tokyo and made it a great success. The opera troupe later came to Osaka. In their preparation for rehearsals, the leading actress Kihara and also the contrabass who were expected to arrive earlier did not show up. Soon after, in the piano box, the corpse of Kihara was found with an unplayable music score.
