The book is a memoirs written in 1949 by Hume, an American doctor, who once founded XiangYa Medical School and XiangYa Hospital.It records things Hu Mei had seen and heard in medicine work in Hunan in the early twentieth century.As a western medical worker,he gave a comprehensive real description of social medical culture and customs, social views on diseases, the Chinese views of TCM and western medicine attitude and the doctor-patient relationship,etc. in the last century. It can yet be regarded as a perspective unique, narrative informative, vivid and interesting memoirs.
