The general history masterwork of ancient ceramics veteran Ye Zhemin is written based on his Chinas Ceramic History Outline, combining new discoveries and results in recent years. It indicates the scholarship methods of the writer: focus on both scientific research and traditional appraisal methods; pay attention to one-the-spot investigations and combine literatures and traditional experience, but not judge without comprehensive reference; and dont ignore special varieties or classical tiles from kiln sites. In terms of kiln site categorization, the writer compares and observes similar varieties and other firing approaches with comparative methods and finds their mainstreams or branches through considering the geologic features and historical origins. For example, he made great achievements in discovering and identifying Ru kiln site from 1977 to 1985 in this way.
