This is the first publication of the diaries and notes of Prince Dmitrii Aleksandrovich Obolenskii (1822-1881), at the peak of his career the chief procurator of the Holy Synod in 1905-1906. He married Dar'ia Petrovna Trubetskaia (1823-1906). The diaries cover 1853-1879. A.P.
