This book continues the series of mutual publications of Helsinki and Tartu Universities. The collection studies those aspects of Russian culture, particularly literature, from the 18th century to the present, which could not be understood without studying them in a West-European context. The contributors cover a wide area of writers and subjects: Sumarokov, Pushkin, Gogol', Viazemskii, L. Tolstoi, magazine Apollon, O. Mandel'shtam, D. Kharms, M. Tsvetaeva, etc.
