In the America, 1920s, the air was filled with song and drinking. Occasionally, the poor staff, Nick broke into the rich person who spent money like water, Gatsbys secret world. He was surprised to find that Gatsbys only care was the little green light across the river--in this dim light, his beloved Daisy lived there. However, the cold reality can not stand the fantasy of dream. In the end, Gatsbys beloved goddess was merely a mundane material girl. When all the truth came out, Gatsbys tragic life is the same as fireworks, bright only a moment, but disillusionment eternal. Fitzgeralds ups and downs of life is the portrayal of Gatsby. This book reflects the disillusionment of ""American dream"" in 1920s vividly, showing the American upper class in Great Depression period and the spirit outlook in ""wasteland era"".
