Professor Omer-Cooper has incorporated recent advances in scholarship: the early history, settlement and relationships of the Khoisan and Bantu-speaking peoples; the causation and course of the 19th-century Mfecane (which was originally detailed in the author's own book The Zulu Aftermath; the recent history of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland and newly independent Namibia; the final phase of apartheid from 1986 to 1990; and the negotiations to establish a transitional regime and to hold all race elections.
