Studies the way in which George Washington has been represented by poets, dramatists, writers of fiction, and biographers from 1775 to 1865. Also touches upon Washington's own writings, moot points of his career and character, the lives of his contemporaries, the lives and works of various writers who have written about him, and his role as a subject in sculpture and painting.
