The books by Lydia Chukovsky about Anna Akhmatova are not just memoirs. They are rather diaries, records for herself following the course of events. The second book of The Chronicles by Lydia Chukovsky transfers us from the end of the 30-s - beginning of the 40-s to the fifties. It's all about Anna Akhmatova, her ordeals and tribulations about notorious Party Decree of 1946, her attempts to release re-arrested son, her poems, her Pushkin's researches, her laconic but sharp notes about the literature, the times, the history of Russia - that's the content of that book. This book is not only about Akhmatova, but about that decade on the whole, about thoughts and feelings of many people from Akhmatova surrounding, how they perceive the new era.

Volume III of The Chronicles by Lydia Chukovsky includes three years: from January 1963 through March 5, 1966 - the day of Anna Akhmatova's death. Many pages of this book are devoted to motions in attempt to protect him. Chukovsky helped Akhmatova to compile her digest The Run of Time, recorded her stories about triumphant trips to Italy and England. The supplement consists of the documents from Lydia Chukovsky archive, he diary After the End, her article Pure Arithmetic about Akhmatova.
