About the Author Zweder von Martels (1954) is Research Fellow of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the Department of Classics of the University of Groningen. He has published a full length monograph on the 16th-century Flemish humanist Augerius Gislenius Busbequius (1989). His edition of the Latin letters of Busbequius was published in 1994. He is the editor of Alchemy Revisited (Brill) in 1989.
