Recently discovered 16th-century tax records in Quedlinburg provide the basis for this social-topographical investigation. The work traces the history of residential and financial circumstances as well as topographical, epidemic, and political turning points, some of them dating back to 1310�. The presented sources and findings are of major importance to historians, and will also help guide the work of building researchers and archeologists.
