The papers in this volume, originally given at the JIA 2009, explore memories generated by conflict and the part which archaeology can play in processes of retriving and healing memories which have been suppressed, and in rebuilding and reconfiguring national identities. Particular areas of focus are the identification and analysis of mass graves from the Spanish civil war and the Franco dictatorship, as well as the retrieval of material culture and historical memory from other repressive regimes in Portugal, Italy, Chile and Argentina. Essays in Spanish and English.
