Painting for water-and-land service is the picture of a Buddha worshiped while holding water-and-land service in Buddhism. Water-and-land service is a grand ceremony for delivering soul from hell in Buddhism. The contents of painting for water-and-land service were very rich with various gods in Buddhism, Daoism,among the people, and even all the gods from different religions, human world and ghosts in hell, bachelor, agriculture, industry, business, people in various trades, Buddhism story, origin of water-and-land service. On the technique aspect, most of the paintings were made with fine brushwork and close attention to detail and with heavy color, only a few of them with thick brushwork and light ink.The paintings were very colorful in style, some were very fine and colorful, some were beautiful and skillful, some combined the style of closing attention to detail and abstract. This book collects 85 paintings for water-and-land service of the Ming and Qing Dynasties with Chinese and English description.
