Here is the Story of Corporal Horrie, mascot for the 2/1st Machine Gun Battalion, as originally told by his owner Jim Moody to the noted Australian author Ion Idriess in 1943. Here we also have Idriess' 63 questions to try and develop the story of Horrie, and Moody's extended narrative of Horrie and the Rebels during the Middle East Campaign and back to Australia are now published for the first time.
With an historical introduction by Tom Thompson, and illustrated with Moody's own great photographs of Horrie in action, this is the real story behind the Idriess classic 'Horrie the Wog Dog'; wherein we can finally see that officials decided to make Moody an example of, and euthanise a dog, instead of making use of Horrie, the best-ever promotion for our troops at the Front. Moody's Tale, based on his water-logged diaries, is an important addition to our understanding of Australians at war.
