Ivan Krylov's memoirs were originally published in 1951, and he recounts his varied service in the Russian Army his demotion from Officer grade to the ranks, became becoming a journalist with Red Star. With his journalist access he was privy to much more information than the average soldier and he recounts the higher workings of the Red Army as well as the horrors of the front, from the Russian heartlands all the way to victory in Berlin.
