Theresa Mary Gowanlock nee Johnson (1863- 1899) and Theresa Delaney nee Fulford (1849- 1913) were American women captured during the Northwest Rebellion on April 2, 1885. When the Metis initiated the North-West Rebellion of 1885 under Louis Riel and Gabriel Dumont, Cree leader Big Bear (c. 1825-1888) and his supporters played a minimal role in the overall uprising, but warriors from among Big Bear's people under the command of Wandering Spirit killed nine white men at Frog Lake in an incident that became known as the Frog Lake Massacre. Theresa Gowanlock's husband John was amongst those killed. The two women recorded their experiences in their book: Two Months in the Camp of Big Bear (1885).
