Women and sexuality in muslim societies

The essays in this book show that the sexual oppression of Muslim women is not the result of an ''Islamic'' vision of sexuality, but a combination of political, social and economic inequalities throughout the ages.However, within this context religion is often misused as a powerful instrument of control, with the goal of legitimizing violations of women's human rights.
