Produced in the early seventh century near Alexandria, the Harklean version is the last in a line of Syriac New Testament versions (or parts thereof). This volume presents a meticulously detailed edition of the Gospel of John in the Harklean version according to Vatican Syriac Manuscript 271. The Syriac text is fully marked with vowels and other diacritical marks. Bernstein provides a lengthy introduction in which he discusses these vowels and other orthographic data from the manuscript. Several pages of critical remarks to the Syriac text, which touch on both other Syriac manuscripts and the Greek text are also included. This volume will be of definite interest to biblical scholars conversant Syriac and other scholars of the Syriac language.
