This volume deals with one of the dark ages of ancient Egypt, the so-called Second Intermediate Period (c. 1785-1550 B.C.), which is regarded as the origin of cultural and political developments of Egypts apogee, the New Kingdom. In particular the archaeological evidence is, for the first time, submitted to a comprehensive analysis, resulting in a new interpretation of the period immediately prior to the New Kingdom.
