Product Description
This Concise Syriac-English, English-Syriac Dictionary is the first two-way dictionary for Syriac and English. The Syriac-English volume/section, with some 13,000 entries, provides a handy and practical tool for reading all but the most specialized Classical Syriac texts, while the English-Syriac also includes many words, either new, or with new meanings, which are current in Modern Literary Syriac/Ktobonoyo. All new dictionaries draw upon their predecessors, and this one is no exception. While for the most part based on Mrs Margoliouth's well-known Compendious Syriac-English Dictionary, use has also be made of other standard dictionaries, in particular those by Costaz and Sokoloff's revised edition and translation of Brockelmann, as well as on notes based on personal reading. There are a number of new reader-friendly features, such as the inclusion among the entries for Syriac-English section of af'el forms of many weak verbs that might otherwise be difficult to recognize.
