The texts that comprise this large volume make it the most important source for studying the official doctrine, and especially the christology, of the Church of the East from the fifth to eighth centuries. The synodical texts included begin with the Synod of Isaac (410) and end with that of Hnan- Isho II in 775. After an introduction, Chabot presents the Syriac texts together with a heavily annotated French translation. The work is made easier to use by five indices: personal names (Syriac), place names (Syriac), personal names (French), place names (French), and subjects (French). Chabot also gives a list of a few Persian words occurring in the Syriac texts. The work is absolutely essential for those studying the Church of East in this period.
