Egyptian Origin of the Ionic Capital and of the Anthemion (Analecta Gorgiana)

This paper argues that the Ionic capital used in Greek architecture derives from Egyptian lotus motifs via Cypriot art. Includes black and white plates illustrating the argument, and makes a convincing case for the development and spread of the Ionic column to mainland Greece.
