Among the ten siblings of the Zhang family, Chonghe and Zonghe were closest. In 1949, Chonghe immigrated to the States with her husband Fu Hansi, while Zonghe stayed in Guizhou and taught there. Though they were far away from each other, they never stopped writing to each other. From the first letter on April 15 Chonghe received when she first arrived in the States to the last letter on December 8 1976 that Zonghe sent before he passed away, thirty years' time is shown through the letters. And if taking Chonghe's letters with Yimeng, Zonghe's daughter, into account, it has been through a century. More than 300 letters with more than 300,000 characters are now edited by Yimeng and scholar Wang Dao, almost released for the first time. Their beautiful handwritings are the witness of the cultural deposits of the Zhang family and the love between the brother and sister, and are also epitome of individual life being impeded by the era in the special years.
