The collection opens with some contributions on the law of the period of the kings and early Republic and the earliest magistracies invested with criminal competence. There follow essays on problems of substantial penal law, especially late Republican, and the headings 'Criminal trial (Roman law)' and 'Criminal punishment (Roman law)', which already appeared in the Enciclopedia del Diritto.
