This thesis identifies, describes and seeks to account for the different archaeological landscapes exploited by early hunter-gatherers in certain regions of Patagonia. Focusing on the environmentally diverse regions of the Valdés Peninsula, the Cerro Castillo and Lago Argentino, Juan Bautista Belardi examines the resources available in these areas, and the key environmental variables and risks to early human occupation. Highlighting factors such as altitude, access to water, lithic material, woodland and upland resources, suitable habitation sites, and proximity to the coast, this comparative study reaches broader conclusions as to the archaeological landscapes exploited by hinter-gatherers of Patagonia.
