The underwater excavation of Dor D, a Byzantine shipwreck off the Carmel coast, began in 1999. This volume forms the report of the survey and excavation of the wreck and of its cargo and associated finds (its domestic assemblage of pottery and metal wares, anchors and ballast). The second part of the report includes a broader study of Palestinian wine production, wine exports and Levantine trade in general in the late 6th century. Kinglsey argues that although Dor D is a low-status ship with a less than bounteous cargo, that this is not representative of an economic decline during this period.
