Archaeological Investigations of Iron Age Sites in the Mema Region, Mali (West Africa)

This report provides the first archaeological survey of the Mema region of Mali, compiling and analysing data from 137 sites and excavations as well as presenting new information from ongoing excavations at Akumbu. The overall intention of the survey is to propose a chronology for the evolution and development of Iron Age occupation and settlement in the Mema. Conclusions are also drawn as to the nature of the economy and the relationship with settlements further afield.
