from the preface-
The purpose of this book is to discern and elucidate certain features of structural congruence between the writings of Martin Heidegger and Ludwig Wittgenstein. No attempt is made herein to defend or criticize either man's writings at the respective expense or fortune of the other's. Moreover, to understand this work, the reader is expected neither to agree with nor to accept either Heidegger's position or Wittgenstein's, or both...Comprehension of this text requires that the reader disengage himself from his own philosophical leanings—be they existential, analytic, or whatever...Comprehension of this work does, however, require a general knowledge of the works of both Heidegger and Wittgenstein. Since such a philosophical background is rare, each comparative chapter is prefaced with two expository chapters.
