Product Description
English summary: Recent influences on the study of history from the fields of language philosophy and literary studies are encouraging new interpretations of early Christian texts with regard to the relationship between the factual and the fictional. The contributions to this volume reflect on these impulses from an epistemological perspective and bring early Christian texts into the debate: How are factual and fictional modes of literary representation being applied to characters, events, themes and motifs? What intentions lie behind them? What are the effects achieved? Insights into the meta-discourse on the subject and the history of its reception complement the volume.

Welche Absichten werden dadurch verfolgt? Welche Effekte erzielt? Einblicke in den Metadiskurs und die Rezeptionsgeschichte zum Thema runden den Band ab.
Review
"[The] editors and contributors of Wie Geschichten Geschichte schreiben are to be commended for compiling a volume that exhibits enough breadth to explore New Testament narratives thoroughly in light of recent methodological concerns while also remaining focused enough on narrative and historiographical matters that each essay follows naturally from the previous one. There will be much to be gleaned for those interested in New Testament narratives, ancient historiography, and methodological distinctions between fact and fiction." --Jonathan Lookadoo, University of Otago, Review of Biblical Literature 6.28.17
