In this book, Islamophobia is addressed as a form of racialization, where ethnically, culturally, and intellectually diverse Muslims are homogenized and portrayed in very limited roles in movies, the media, and pop culture. Islamophobia and the stereotypes that go along with it are compared to well-known historical examples of racism targeting other minority groups. The ways in which these stereotypes presently lead to social marginalization are discussed. Finally, the book sheds light on the role such stereotypes play in fueling hate crimes and conflict.
