The portrayal of Christ as an ideal king who united in his reign the broken cosmos again with humanity is a central rhetorical strategy in Ephesians. Julien Smith shows how these literary characterization brings together the main themes of the letter: the reconciliation of humanity with God, the Association of Jews and Gentiles, making the harmony of the church and the destruction of enemy forces to ally themselves against the Church. The author supports his analysis by showing how great was the response to which pushed the idea of the royal ideal. This was due to both the Jewish and Greco-Roman thought widespread desire for the golden age that is declared by a God-sent monarch.
