This study deals with the 'De Eruditione Filiorum Nobilium' of Vincent of Beauvais, the thirteenth century Dominican encyclo- pedist/educator, and most specifically, with the section of his enchiridion which treats the education of women. The work offers an analysis and elucidation, with special attention paid to theme and diction, of Vincent's notions on women's education. The textual exegesis is presented within the larger framework of the history of mediaeval attitudes toward the education of women before Vincent and contemporary with him.
