The battle of Austerlitz on the 2nd December 1805 decided the fate of Europe and created conditions for ten years of conflict which came to be known as the Napoleonic wars. It also created the enduring myth of Napoleon’s personal genius. This guide explores the battle in detail from the point of view of the soldiers who fought in it and witnessed it.

With 130 original illustrations our guide explores the infantry, cavalry, artillery and support troops of the three armies that fought at Austerlitz. An introduction to the 1805 campaign and maps and photographs of the battlefield give a detailed view of the battle in context. Each illustration is based on referenced contemporary source material, including prints, paintings and written sources.
