These colloquia held every 3-4 years are dedicated to the contributions of the late mathematicians Lars Ahlfors and Lipman Bers to the fields of geometric function theory, hyperbolic geometry, partial differential equations, and Teichmüller theory. Increasing attention is being paid to their legacy for its impact on many other fields of mathematics including algebraic geometry, dynamical systems, geometric group theory, number theory, mathematical physics, and topology. The majority of the 18 papers and plenary talks presented at the May 8-11, 2008 colloquium at Rutgers U. and introduced by Bonk (U. of Michigan) treat new research related to this legacy, but there are review articles as well.
