Mathematicians from Europe, Asia, and South America explore areas of mathematics of particular interest to John C. Wood, whose 60th birthday the September 2009 event celebrated. The 24 topics include explicit constructions of harmonic maps, congruence curves of the Goldstein-Petrich flaws, the geometry of biharmonic maps, invariant surfaces and their extrinsic curvature, the characteristic foliations of metric contact pairs, and the existence of harmonic morphisms from three-dimensional Lie groups. Woods also contributes a memoir of his 39 years working with harmonic maps. The anthology is not indexed. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
