Papers from a June 2000 conference report on research in symbolic computation as it applies to the solution of polynomial systems. Contributors are pure and applied mathematicians, computer scientists, and engineers who use symbolic computation to solve systems of equations and who develop the theoretical background and tools needed for this purpose. Focus is on systems of polynomials, systems of differential equations, noncommutative systems, and applications. Some papers are expanded versions of survey lectures given at the conference and some represent current research discussed in half-hour talks. Some specific topics are equations of parametric curves and surfaces via syzygies, and finiteness for arithmetic fewnomial systems. This work lacks a subject index. Annotation c.
