Papers resulting from a year long program at Berkeley during 1990-1991 and a special session held in San Francisco in January 1991. The first half, on real algebraic geometry, includes papers on algebraic structures of manifolds, local uniformization of orderings, orderings for noncommutative rings, and valuation spectra.
