About the Author MANUELA ALBERTONE is Professor of Modern History at the University of Turin, Italy. Her work focuses on eighteenth century French and American history and the relationship between politics and economics. ANTONINO DE FRANCESCO is Professor of Modern History at the University of Milan, Itlay. He has published numerous articles on the French and Italian democratic movements as well as a number of books, including Il governo senza testa. Product Description This unique collection of essays provides a re-evaluation of the term 'Atlantic', by placing at the core of the debate on republicanism in the early modern age the link between continental Europe and America, rather than assuming British political culture as having been widely representative of Europe as a whole. Review "The essays are well written and provide ample support for the authors' arguments. As a group, they provide a new viewpoint of Atlantic history far more complex and interesting than the previous, rather simplistic model of transatlantic exchange. The collection places the age of democratic revolution in a new context while highlighting the link between economics and politics... Highly recommended." - CHOICE
